We will have to return to Guatemala with Cintia. Right now, it appears to be very soon and only for a few days to go to court. It also appears that the judge will start her abandonment but only if Cintia is present for a court appearance. PGN is in support of the abandonment. Our attorney has requested a medical report saying it is safe for Cintia to be out of the country for 1-2 days only. He is building a safety net for us so that we can get her safely back out. PGN is in support of us taking her back out of the country as well. The final resolution of the judge will lay the groundwork and the court date. It should state that the abandonment can be processing with Cintia out of the country subject to a court appearance by Cintia. However, the proof will be in writing which is still to come. Our attorney meets with her again next week. She could simply snatch her away from us in court and place her in an orphanage. She could decide she wants her in country for the duration at which point we beg to foster her. If she decides a Guatemalan family must foster her, then we will have a Guatemalan family living with us somewhere in Guatemala. Sigh......... Too big, too much, and too scary for me to handle.
Another nightmare is that her visa could expire before or during our visit. If we can get her out of the US and back before April 9, we should be safe. The extension is pending and we are probably not going to get it in time. However, if I fly her out and back in, she will get a new stamp. We would then ask for a year at the airport. If I get there and the case drags out too long, we will be stuck in Guatemala.
Please pray!!! I will explain this more clearly later but the risks are pretty obvious. However, we will proceed with God in control. Boy...it's gonna be a bumpy ride!
Blessings,
April
